What Becky wants…
No pain. Becky lives with pain all over her body — especially in her back. She’s on strong medications to manage it, but long-term use comes with its own challenges and limits.
I get feed not food. She dreams of tasting real food again.
Cook. Becky was a fab cook - she even made my tiered wedding cake by hand. It was beautiful, it was delicious, and it was made with love.
Kids. She wants to be there for her children — to talk to them, hug them, laugh with them, share life’s small moments.
Tidy the house. Whatever floats your boat!
No dignity. She wants her dignity back.
Becky spelt out each of the words shown in bold and I asked her yes and no questions to gain the rest of the information. This conversation took an 45 emotional minutes. After that, Becky was utterly exhausted. To communicate, she spells out each word (using an alphabet chart, like the image shown). It’s a slow, intense process — but it’s her only voice right now.

Here is a short clip of Becky talking with her mum using this process.
