How it happened…

Becky had been preparing for her son’s 18th birthday — an exciting milestone for any family, but especially for them. Her son had just earned a place at Oxford University, and the whole family was looking forward to celebrating such an incredible moment.

But the night before the party, everything changed. Becky began to feel unwell at work and called her husband to take her home. What seemed like a severe migraine quickly worsened. Knowing something was seriously wrong, she went to hospital — and within hours, she was diagnosed with a massive stroke.

Becky was placed in a coma and spent days in intensive care as doctors fought to stabilise her. Her body was brought in and out of the coma several times, and for a while, nobody realised that Becky — the bright, loving woman everyone knew — was still fully aware inside. It was a devastating time for her family.

Over the following year, Becky faced setback after setback, battling repeated chest infections and struggling to recover. At last, she was strong enough to leave hospital and move to a rehabilitation centre, where she continues her long and courageous journey toward recovery.
